World Toilet & Summit Expo 2008

There are an estimated 2.6 billion people who remain without proper sanitation facilities worldwide. To achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) target to halve the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015, the UN General Assembly has declared 2008 the International Year of Sanitation.

With the purpose of accelerating the progress on sanitation issues, members of the global community need to openly discuss pertinent issues, implement new policies and achieve measurable targets. United Nations agencies, regional and international organisations, civil society groups and other relevant stakeholders from all countries, have important and functional roles to play in relieving the world of this silent humanitarian crisis.

In support of the United Nations International Year of Sanitation, World Toilet Organization presents two action-led events, which focus on providing the impetus for sustainable sanitation. A creative solution is to drive the paradigm shift required to tap on the emerging market at the ‘bottom of the pyramid’ that will empower more people to gain access to proper sanitation.

Be part of the community that is helping to steer sanitation on track towards achieving the Millennium Development Goal for Sanitation and participate in the World Toilet Summit & Expo.

EXPO

The first World Toilet Expo & Forum was held in Shanghai in 2005, and thereafter in Bangkok in 2006. It features innovative and practical solutions from leading industry names.

A Leading-edge Sanitation Solutions Showcase The Expo will work towards improving sanitation both for the urban and rural areas and encourage corporate participants to provide holistic solutions for the “bottom of the pyramid”. WTSE 2008 will co-locate with ISSA/INTERCLEAN China, giving visitors a more comprehensive platform towards sanitation and cleaning solutions.

A unique feature at the Expo will be the Marketplace - a discussion platform which aims to engage the private, public and humanitarian sectors to explore new solutions. It is an excellent opportunity for active discussions with key decision makers and stakeholders.

SUMMIT

An initiative from WTO since 2001, the World Toilet Summit is an annual gathering of experts with focused discussions that promote clean toilets, sanitation issues and hygiene.
