Universal design is about making products, services and environments usable by as many people as possible. Difficulties in day-to-day work and life can come from the effects of old age, physical disability or environment. As economies and personal wealth grow, global age distribution has shifted towards an older population, though one still needing or wanting to remain as active members of the workforce and society. As Singapore’s national design centre for aging, >60 looks to address the increasing challenges of an aging population through Universal Design, with the added benefit of overlapping in meeting the needs of other needy groups. Universal Design can be used to optimize product and process of businesses to best meet the changing needs and wants of their aging customers. This is a growing issue that cannot be ignored by businesses who want to remain competitive in the changing global economy.
