Newspapers have become a record of the important events and shared information of public interest. As a source of information and research, old newspapers provide a window to how people perceived the world around them.

This exhibition features a selection of newspaper articles (retrieved from NewspaperSG) on topics that affected the daily lives of Singaporeans – Politics, Economy, Public Housing, Public Transport and National Campaigns. It also displays an array of news and features on subjects that interest and fascinate us – Entertainment, Fashion, Crimes, Disasters and Sports. Read these articles to gain a better understanding of what had happened around us then.

NewspaperSG is a fully searchable online archive of Singapore news. It offers users access to a host of newspaper titles such as The Straits Times, Singapore Chronicle and TODAY (available in 2nd quarter 2010), dating back to 1831. Experience it yourself, visit newspapers.nl.sg.
