Practical Heat Integration for Engineers & Managers
Heat integration is a form of process integration that systematically examines the entire heat exchanger network. Simply, two different networks may be able to perform the required thermal duty, but one will be more efficient than the other. By determining thermodynamically feasible energy targets and achieving them by optimizing heat recovery, energy supply and process operating conditions, plant operators will be able to realize significant cost savings in reducing energy consumption. This is also known as “Heat Pinch” analysis.
No matter what the economic climate, improving thermal efficiency is always beneficial to the profitability of a process plant. Heat integration is a powerful tool that gives plant operators and project managers the ability to determine the most optimal way of doing so. Whether for the construction of a new plant, or the modification of an existing plant, heat integration can help to save cost and increased efficiency. Even if new projects or modifications are not in the pipeline, having the knowledge of the methodology of heat integration becomes very useful in identifying potential areas for cost savings.
