Occupational Safety and Health Challenges in Workplace

Safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy. ~Author Unknown

Safety and health continues to be the priority for many industries and sectors. While there may be challenging times ahead as a result of a difficult economic and financial environment, these industries and sectors must maintain its focus on the goals of eliminating fatalities and further reducing injury rates. While much improvement in the prevention of fatalities and injuries has been achieved in recent years, there is still considerable work to be done if we are to attain our goals. Many industries will continue to face a range of workforce related issues that directly impact on safety and health outcomes.

Challenges include the urgent need for up-skilling in critical areas of labour shortage; the increasing utilisation of migrant employees; and the resource industry’s high rate of turnover and growth which has significant implications for training, recruitment, productivity and most importantly, workplace safety culture.
