Freemasonry is probably the oldest fraternal organisation in the world. Many of the leading lights of the Age of Enlightenment, which saw the rapid transformation of European society from the Dark Ages to the Modern Age, were Masons.
Nearer home, many of the pioneers in the founding of Singapore were masons. Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore was a mason, so were Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Keppel, Sir Walter John Napier, Sir Thomas deMulton, Lee Braddell, and John Turnbull Thomson, just to name a few.
The Masons are celebrating in Singapore this year the 150th Anniversary of their presence in South East Asia, and the Masonic stamps exhibition is part of that celebration. For more information, please call District Grand Lodge of the Eastern Archipelago at 6337 7429.
