Do you know that Colorectal Cancer is the number one cancer affecting Singaporeans today? More than 1,400 people are diagnosed with the disease every year. Many of us are unaware of the symptoms of colorectal cancer, as well as the screening and treatment options made available. As part of the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March, the Singapore Cancer Society will be holding public forums to raise awareness amongst Singaporeans about the disease. Held in English, Mandarin and Malay, the public forums will provide members of the public with more information on colorectal cancer, its causes and symptoms, preventive measures and various methods of treatment. Public forum details are as follows: English Forum Date: 13 March 2010, Saturday Time: 1.00 – 3.00 pm Language: English Mandarin Forum Date: 13 March 2010, Saturday Time: 3.30 – 5.30 pm Malay Forum Date: 27 March 2010, Saturday Time: 1.30 – 3.00 pm Venue / Address: Kallang Community Club, 45 Boon Keng Road Nearest MRT: Boon Keng Free faecal occult blood test (FOBT) kits will also be distributed to individuals aged 50 years and above at these forums. FOBT is a preliminary screening method to test for the presence of non-visible blood in one’s stools, and individuals are recommended to participate in screening on an annual basis.
