Financial Statements Made Easy

Introduction
Financial statements are an important source of information about a company. By understanding the characteristics and items in financial statements, we will be able to interpret and use the information effectively for many other purposes such as analysis, budgeting or reporting.

This course is designed to discuss the main features of the financial statements prepared by a business enterprise. After this course, participants will be able to understand the meaning and fundamental structure of the financial statements, and make effective use of the information.

Objectives
At the end of this one day workshop, participants will be able to:

- discuss the main features of the financial statements prepared by a business enterprise
- understand the meaning and fundamental structure of the financial statements, and the inter-relationship of the items in the statements
- apply key management ratios to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the business operations
- apply various analytical techniques to examine the performance of the business operation

Interpretation of Auditors' Reports
- objectives and scope of audit
- reasonable assurance
- true and fair view
- auditors opinion

Analysing Performance of an Enterprise
(including case study and interpretation techniques)
- liquidity ratios
- profitability ratios
- solvency ratios
- asset management ratios
- stock market ratios


Methodology
Participants are guided through practical steps of the topic with a combination of lectures, case studies and group discussions.

Managers and executives who have little or no knowledge of accounting, but need to know how basic accounting works, and apply accounting related techniques when making business decisions.
