Deepwater System Masterclass: Sediments, Seismic Stratigraphy & Reservoir Models
Workshop Overview
This course addresses the full range of deepwater systems – from the building blocks of process, facies and sequences, through the nature and recognition of architectural elements and their subsurface characterisation using seismic and wireline log data, to the internal/external controls that determine their overall geometry, sequence stratigraphy and occurrence. Subsurface recognition of deepwater systems through seismic recognition and wireline log attributes, as well as identification of the parameters needed for input to reservoir models will be fully covered.
A final part will deal with challenges of deepwater drilling, including hazard management, hydrate identification and safety issues. At each stage, these data and concepts will be illustrated with numerous case studies – including modern systems, ancient outcrop analogues and subsurface reservoirs – and reinforced with class exercises. The deepwater oil and gas play will be considered within its full basin context. The petroleum perspectives and take-home lessons will be fully developed and discussed.
About Your Course Facilitator
The expert is the Director of ECOSSE (Edinburgh Consortium of Subsurface Science and Engineering). As a leading specialist and internationally renowned expert in deepwater sedimentary systems, he has more than 30 years of experience in modern, ancient and subsurface sediments. He specializes in the deep sea and on deep-sea deposits now thrown up onto land. In pursuing this scientific quest he has sailed on all the world’s major oceans, visited or worked in more than 50 countries and lectured extensively throughout the world. He has worked in and with the oil industry, particularly in their ongoing quest for deep-sea oil and gas and on new and tight reservoir targets; led a major international mission for scientific drilling into the deep Indian Ocean seafloor; as well as many other expeditions on land and at sea.
The course facilitator is a lively, interesting and highly informed instructor. He is able to draw upon a great wealth of experience and examples to fully illustrate his presentations, and utilizes short course exercises for further instruction. His teaching and instruction has been highly acclaimed at all levels. Be it in academic or industrial based research, he has given great contribution to the development of deepwater sedimentary systems.
Partial list of companies that have benefited from his experience include:
* BP
